I Failed that Stinking Module by a FEW Marks… Blah! :P

October 30, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Righto. The latest news regarding my mysterious Aural and Sight-singing results is just in. All thanks to ZQ for finding it out for me. Arigato gozaimas’, ZQ. :)

I failed the Aural test but passed the exam and GTC did include the gradings for the Sight-singing part, which I had passed. However, because of the Aural test results, it pulled my total grade for Aural down by a few marks. Thus, I failed the entire module.

And so, I, ZQ, Char and Dora will be sitting for the reassessment tomorrow at noon before heading of to NIE together. How interesting…

Blah!

I received this mass email from my Ethnomusicology lecturer and I found it damn funny which I really want to share with you all.

“dear …notti…students…
those who got their results as failed for ethnomsuic and / or gamelan….
the reassessment is monday 9am for both courses. The exam will be similar to the last exam, same content to learn, i will ask mainly for the same topics but restructure the questions, maybe focus on another aspect of the same topic…e.g. instead of name and descibe 3 instruments from java and laos, i might ask for names of ensembles….
for gamelan shanti, and for ethnomusic jobyna will also have to play gamelan for me…old thing…eling eling…irama 1 going into 2

The exam was easy if you learn, like all my exams, unmanagable if you don’t learn. There are A results, so it was not impossible.
i am getting some emotional sms from people not accepting that they failed, then i check on their papers, and half the paper is empty and the stuff written is pretty horrible….if gamelan students dont know the name of the instruments after 6 months playing (the javanese drum is NOT called ketupat!), or don’t even know the name of the only 2 existing scales, and if you don’t remember a single instrument from southeast asia after 14 sessions lecture about southeast asian music, if you still think, hornbostel sachs is a piano house, then rather consider apologizing for failing than playing the victim of unjust correction.”

I read it just now and found it so hilarious that I nearly cried. Seriously… Whatever made those students think that a Javanese drum is called a ketupat? Those students were probably thinking about Hari Raya Puasa celebrations. Haha! Sigh…

I still can not believe I got a C for this subject. I am still thinking whether I should send him a email to find out how did I pass. Hmmm… Should I? Should I not? Should I? Should I not? Should I? Should I not? Should I? …

Day 1. 6th October, Friday.

October 27, 2006 · Leave a Comment

(Welcome to Melbourne, Australia. Taken outside McDonald’s near the airport.)

8 deg. celcius. Arrived in Melbourne at 7:10am. Didn’t sleep much. Stomach indigestion due to food on MAS. Cleared through immigrations and customs very quickly. Sat waiting in Arrival hall for Mum’s friend. Left at 8:15am. Stopped by McDonald’s for Aunt Kathy, who’s Mum’s friend, to get her caffine fix and breakfast. (She left home at 5:30am and came straight to the airport! Gosh… Her place must be far…)

(Melbourne City skyline, taken inside Aunt Kathy’s car on the Princess Freeway.)

Drove through Melbourne City as Aunt Kathy’s place is in the east of Melbourne.

Stopped by some places along the way…
A strawberry farm where strawberries were not in season as yet…

We stopped at a huge shopping center and had lunch there. There have a huge departmental store that is very much like our Robinsons and Marks and Spencer. I spent my first $25 at one of the clothing stores on a navy-blue sweater. :)

We went to a public park, which was really beautiful and totally unlike Singapore’s, and we saw a Kukabarra (unsure of spelling), which is a native bird of Australia, and many different plants and flowers…

After that, we went of to a supermarket to pick out some gorceries for dinner. Finally arrived at Aunt Kathy’s at six-ish. I was tired and cold. Mum and Godma cooked “Chinese stir-fry” for dinner. It was basically our stir-fried mixed vegetables, sliced chicken with ginger and spring onions with white steamed rice. I wonder why is it people like the Australians, Europeans and Americans hold such a “high regard” for Chinese stir-fry. They think it as some exotic dish. I am amazed. Anyway, I nearly froze after my shower. Thank goodness the heater was switched on and I was thawed infront of it. Slept like a log in my sleeping-bag on the floor.

Goong… The End.

October 24, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I just finished watching Goong and I can not help smiling like an idiot. I am such a sucker for ‘happily-ever-endings’. And, Oh my goodness! Choi Sang Gung is so pretty especially after Chaegyung gave her a makeover. Hha! *smiles silly* Do you know Kang Hyun? She’s CG’s friend, the one with the spectacles and very straight long hair. That little side-story about one of Shin’s friends “falling” for her was hilarious. Haha!

My next K-drama will be My Lovely Samsoon. Heehee! :)

I am such an addict…

Results!

October 23, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Well, well, well… Guess what happened. I received the results today and I was not and still am not happy with it. There happens to be a missing subject listed and that is Brass Studies or whatever you want to call it. The result for that was not listed on the piece of paper. Oh, I passed every other subject except for Aural & Sight-singing. Aaarrgghhh!!! I am so irritated!!! In the first place, we were only examined on Aural, without the Sight-singing component. Secondly, I had failed my Aural Term 1 test. Thirdly, HOW ON EARTH DID THEY DO THE STUPID BLOODY !@$#$%$%^%^&%&@#$!!@#@ MARKING???!!! AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH………………..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed off right now. I got a D for Principle Study. Deja vu! Just like the first semester of Year 1. Brilliant. Bloody brilliant. And there is Bach’s Prelude and Fugue to prepare for the second semester’s exam. How brilliant.

On a happier note, I passed History, which I had totally crapped through, MoA, which I had completed only 60% of the paper, Harmony, Ethnomusicology, which you better read in my many entries ago, and those two other subjects, Concert Attendance and Performance Project, which I had Bs for both. Amazing!

Mum accompanied me to the Esplanade library this afternoon as I wanted to borrow JS Bach’s Prelude and Fugue Book 2, which I eventually did. After that, we walked around Marina Square and went through Robinsons at Raffles City before taking the bus home. There were some lovely Victorian-ish clothing and there was one black-and-white sleeveless dress that was really pretty. However, the prices were not very pretty. Sigh…

I miss Enx. I need someone to talk too, especially about school stuff. Venting my fustrations here is not enough. I need someone to listen to my woes and share my opinions. Sigh… Friends are trully invaluable. May God bless these friends.

I am going back to Goong-ing so that I can direct my extra energy on Shin, Yul and Chaegyung for those three are totally stupid. Stupid, stupid, STUPID!!! Aaaarrrrgggggggggghhhhh…!!!

To Dream or Not to Dream

October 21, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Juls and I had a very interesting conversation in the wee hours of the morning. It happened while I was, in her very own words, “Goong-ing” episode 11 on YouTube(TM)(C). (Goong or Princess Hours can be found on Channel U, Mondays-Fridays at 7.30pm.) You will find something like this on her own blog. Well, from talking about Yul and Shin, we drifted off to another topic about dreaming. K-dramas, or rather, the people behind them had very much epitomised any and every girl’s Prince Charming/ Knight in Shining Amour. Caring, sweet, charming, good-looking, (a bit proud,) and definitely rich, is it not every girl’s dream? It is precisely almost every girl’s dream-guy that we can hardly find one in this world. Haha!

I said to Juls, “It is nice to dream because dreams hardly come true.” That is why I continue to dream; dream that Prince Charming will save me from an evil witch or fiery dragon, sweep me off my feet onto his white horse and ride into the sunset, and his castle where we will leave happily ever after. Too good to be true? Lol! That is why I dream, just like all normal human beings.

Another question that Juls asked me, was I going to remain single or become a sister? My answer to that is this. Remaining single is one of two options; either single and spinsterhood or get married. But being single is quite a good option. I can get my yearly ang bao while spoiling my brother’s kids without really taking care of them. Haha! Becoming a religious sister is definitely out of the question. I am not meant for it. So there.

Well, I am going back to dream and watch Goong. :)

My Personality Quiz

October 19, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I took this personality quiz that I happen to “find” while reading Juls blog and the results are rather surprising. There is only one part I agree with and that is “Independent and stubborn”. Oh well…

You Are An INFJ

The Protector

You live your life with integrity, originality, vision, and creativity.
Independent and stubborn, you rarely stray from your vision – no matter what it is.
You are an excellent listener, with almost infinite patience.
You have complex, deep feelings, and you take great care to express them.

You would make a great photographer, alternative medicine guru, or teacher.
