Of Beaches and Nasi Lemak

November 25, 2008 · 3 Comments

Finally!!!

I had finally satisfied that craving after five years!!! Five long years mind you. I had somehow pestered my dad to drive all the way to Changi Village over those years since my first taste of it. And today, we did! :D

Ahhh… That plate of nasi lemak ayam from Changi Village was so satisfying. And the price is good too. As compared to the other nasi lemak stalls that were selling $3 for a plate with a piece of fried chicken wing, this stall sells a plate at $0.50 cheaper, at $2.50! What is more, this stall is also recommended by the one and only Makansutra of Singapore!!! I can not tell you why it is so satisfying or else the surprise will be over. You will have to try it for yourself. Heehee…!!! Photos below.

Said nasi lemak (goreng) ayam (Oops! I took a mouthful before taking this shot. My bad. LoL.)

Next: the stall at the hawker centre (See that, see that?! Recommended by Makansutra! :D )

I was wondering how on earth my brother knew about the nasi lemak at Changi Village when the answer hit me- he was posted to an army camp near there years ago. Right. -.-”

Anyway, my parents and I did a bit of travelling/driving around the eastern tip of Singapore last thursday when we went to Pasir Ris Downtown East to eat the chicken rice at the foodcourt there, and today, when we travelled to Changi Village for the nasi lemak.

Sadly, the chicken rice stall at Downtown East is no longer helmed by the famous ex-chef of The Mandarin Hotel’s Chatterbox. The new stall owners took over from him about six months ago. Most sad for my mum who was craving for that man’s chicken rice since he left the Chatterbox which sells $20 (or there about) a plate. However, thankfully, I did get to try the chef’s dish one year ago when my pals and I were in the area a.k.a playing at the theme park, and I remembered then that it was really good. For me to compare the two stalls’ plates of chicken rice will be difficult as I had already forgotten how the previous one tasted like. But the new stall is worth eating at especially if there are three and more in a group for I suggest that you get half a chicken ($11) and how many plates of rice you want as it is more economical than getting a set meal which is priced at $5. The meat is both cooly tender and juicy, the rice is fragrant, the cabbage soup is tasty and the chilli is nicely hot. It was worth the drive there.

After that satisfying lunch, we took a drive to the nearby Pasir Ris beach which was not exactly near is terms of time as we missed the turn off and went to the end of the road before turning back and finally turning into the right place. It had certainly been a while since I was last there and I was somehow reminising that particular time when the gang had a little vacation at the nearby chalet and celebrating a certain somebody’s birthday where the said person put a ball in side said person’s tee and pretended to be pregnant. !!!. Later in the evening, said person went to dance on the DDR machine at the chalet’s arcade room and then scored full points where all present were surprised and amazed at said person’s hidden talent. Right. I hope those reading this will know who is this ’said person’ and that the ’said person’ knows who I am talking about as I do not want to post that incrimidating photo here, right, ’said person’? Muahahaha…!!! I do not think Neko will remember much of this episode simply because… SHE WENT HOME BEFORE IT HAPPENED. Wahahahahaha…! Anyway, it was wonderfully hilarious!!! Ahh, that one time spent at Pasir Ris beach. Haha.

And so, I went to Changi Village today with my parents to lunch on nasi lemak ayam. After that, it was to the nearby Changi beach. And do you know… it was my first time to Changi beach! Yup. My first time to Changi beach. Is it that unbelivable? I think it is. In all my years and I had never been to Changi beach till today. What is more, that beach is closer to where I live as compare to, say, Sembawang beach where I had been to twice, or West Coast beach where I do not even know exactly where. So you see, I think I am quite pathetic in a way. Bleh. What I did at the beach was to look for nice sea shells and I did find some interesting ones. Yup. That is what I do whenever I go to a beach. It is very common, right?

‘On to the OVA’

At last I am done with all 178 episodes of The Prince of Tennis after goodness knows how many months I have been at it, or has it been years? Oh well. I am on to the OVA. However, I have a strange feeling that I had already watched parts of the OVA before. Hmmm… Whatever. I will watch it again. Lol.

‘Shopping’

Mum and I had been doing some shopping this week; it was to JB on monday and then John Little (JL) on wednesday. I was rather indecisive on which pair of shoes to buy at JL and so, guess what I did? I bought both! :D One pair is like my favourite but totally worn out pair of blue canvas shoes that I bought last July in Australia, and the other is a pair of those gladiator-like sandals. And the best thing is… both pairs are black! Haha! I got too many pairs of black shoes now in the shoe cabinet. Hee hee.

‘List of presents’

Christmas is coming and I had drawn up my list of presents to get for my family and friends. Sadly, I have not many ideas on what to get for them. I have three main lists; for family, for the gang, and for the co., and out of the three, only one is sort of complete. Crap. And I will be away for the 15 days before Christmas, that means that I have to get the shopping done before I leave. Sigh. I am hoping that these people will tell me what they want so that it will be so much easier to handle. However, it will seem a little insincere, just like buying for every one the same thing as the last resort. I can do it. I will not resort to such a drastic step. I may buy them souvenirs from my latest trip. Lala! Then again, I am not very sure as to how many people will be back for Christmas as I know that four people are studying far away from this sunny island. What a headache. As for myself, I know what I want so people, listen up. If you want to save yourself the hassle of thinking of a suitable present for me, JUST ASK ME WHAT I WANT so that your gift will not end up being recycled next Christmas or for someone’s birthday. LOL. Come ask me. Come, come. :)

‘Petty? Childish?’

I am rather annoyed with a friend. She did say that she will be free on either Thursday or Friday so that we will go down to the driving centre together to get some things done. However, she just told me that she will most likely go with her boyfriend next week as he has some discounts on the courses that he will share with her. Somehow, this is not the first time she had “stood me up” and I had specially set aside these two days just for her or else I would not had wasted them and probably meet with a schoolmate to pass her her stuff. That is why I said that I am rather annoyed with her. So annoyed that I did not reply her SMS after she told me that piece of news. -.-… You may say that I am giving her the silent treatment. Yes, I am. You may even think that I am being petty or childish about it. I say, “Whatever” because this is really not the first time for her to do such a thing. I shall not be bothered about her till her next SMS which will depend on the contents of it. Crap. God only knows why I am putting up with that kind of behaviour. Humph. Whatever.

(Evil) Nari is Back

November 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ahhh… At last… I can finally breathe a huge sigh of release… The important stuff are finally over and now, heehee… I can play!!! You mean, you can play even more???  … Wait a minute. … WT-!!! When did you return??? I thought you were gone, months ago!!! Well, darling, you thought wrong. I’m always here. Always beside you… Muahahhahahahaha…!!! And so, since you say that I have return, then, yes, I have return. So, welcome me back into your arms. Muahahaahahah…!!!

Now move over ‘cos I’m taking from here. Hey!!! *aMrie has been shoved aside by her evil self*

Ahhh… It’s good to be “back”, as she puts it. Anyway, here’s a little update. Let’s see… Hmmm… Wednesday past was an interesting day as the lovely people of DSI 232 rolled out their first songs. Three splendid little bands performed and I say, they have talent. Yayayyyyyy…!!! Why is SOMEONE being so sickenly sweet here??? Two words for you. SHUT. UP. As I was saying, you rock people!!! Please come to me. I can be your manager(s) anytime. Hahaahahaa…! And she will take a commission on 70% from your albums’ takings. I will not be that greedy. I will only take 60%. Heehee! See… I told you so. Anyway, stop horsing around, you silly mare. *Nari has been kicked out of the room with the door slammed shut behind her*

To read more, take a look at Enx’s blog. Right. My highlight this week, besides the assignments’ due dates and the performances, The Gangsters finally had a reunion dinner together yesterday night! Yayyy!!! It has been a really long time since we last met up as a group. Anyway, we dined at The Cathay Chinese Restaurant, level 2 of The Cathay. The girls paid for the boys’ dinner as a belated birthday treat. No sincereity! Hey! You are supposed to outside! And.. SHUT UP!!! Like hell I will! And no swearing!!! Haha!!! Just ignore that psycho. As I was saying, we decided on that as the four of us could not find any suitable presents for them. So there. It was really good to see them again now that the Twins are in army. O gosh. Ah-boy seriously needs some skin whitening treatment. He is so… Ewww… Better way of putting such crude speech, I am so not used to seeing Ah-boy this tanned before. He looked like he was – Chared. Oi! Stop interuppting me. Yes. He looked terribly different. Baka Neko burst out laughing like the idiot that she is when she saw Ah-boy from afar. How evil.. Tut tut.. I’m way better than her. As for Look, I think he looked quite alright. At least better than Ah-boy, as in, he looked almost the same as usual. O! One conclusion: they are still (in)sanely alright. Lol! Right. Got to wait for ZQ to send the photos we took last night over. Such an Ah-Gong. For once, I agree with you. So slow… QUICK!

Something to Share… “Change Your Thinking”

 Change Your Thinking

It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats.Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fineview of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man onthe other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band – he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, ‘Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.’
Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy.
‘Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.’
